Wally Epton running out of superlatives in thanking John Moffatt for his amazing talk, and presenting him with an HAA tie. John Moffatt has now turned 90 and he stood by the lectern for an hour to deliver his talk - without any notes at all! A truly remarkable gentleman who made the audience feel very humble in comparison.

John Moffatt making a point during his talk. After taking off from the Ark Royal to attack the Bismark, the Squadron entered cloud at about 700ft, and climbed up through it in formation, following the leader. After coming out on top they then flew on an intercept course for the Bismark. They knew when they were overhead the Bismark by the amount of anti aircraft fire coming up through the clouds. The Squadron then dived through the clouds, only just pulling up in time to miss a ditching due to the poor weather conditions. Having dropped his torpedo, he described making a very flat turn to avoid presenting the Bismark's gunners with a plan view of his aircraft.
